Golf Cart Lithium Conversion Guide: Club Car, EZGO & Yamaha (48V)
Short answer: To convert a 48V Club Car, EZGO or Yamaha golf cart to lithium, you take out the lead-acid batteries, bolt one Pro-Guide LiFePO4 pack into the compartment with a cart-specific bracket, reconnect the main positive and negative cables, add a charge receptacle, and mount the dash state-of-charge (SOC) gauge and the 12V DC-DC converter. The Pro-Guide G48V105 kit includes the battery, a 15A lithium charger, the SOC gauge harness, the DC-DC converter and a 110V universal receptacle. The mounting bracket and any cart-specific receptacle are sold separately.
This guide covers how to do the conversion: what you need, tools and safety, removing the old batteries, installing and wiring the lithium pack, the first charge, and care afterward. The steps come from Pro-Guide's own installation videos for the Club Car Precedent and the Yamaha Drive2. If you are still choosing a pack, start with our lithium golf cart battery buyer's guide, then come back here to install it.
Key Takeaways
- One pack replaces the whole bank: a 48V conversion swaps six or four lead-acid batteries for one 51.2V LiFePO4 pack, such as the 99 lb G48V105.
- The kit covers the electrics: every Pro-Guide golf kit includes the battery, a matched lithium charger, an SOC gauge harness with ON/OFF button, a DC-DC converter to 12V, a 110V universal receptacle and an AC extension cord.
- Buy the bracket for your cart: mounting brackets for the Club Car Precedent, Club Car DS, EZGO TXT, EZGO RXV and EZGO TXT / Yamaha are sold separately, as are Club Car and EZGO charge receptacles.
- Negative off first: put the cart in "tow," label the main cables, and disconnect the main negative before the main positive.
- Charge to 100% before the first drive, and only charge between 32°F and 131°F.
What You Need for a Lithium Conversion
A complete conversion has three parts: the battery kit, a mounting bracket made for your cart, and a charge receptacle that fits your cart's body. Pro-Guide sells all of them, along with the full range of golf cart conversion kits.
1. The battery kit
Each Pro-Guide lithium golf kit ships with:
- The LiFePO4 battery pack
- A lithium battery charger matched to the pack
- A power harness with a dash-mounted state of charge (SOC) gauge and ON/OFF button
- A DC-DC voltage converter that steps pack voltage down to 12V
- A 110V universal power receptacle
- An AC power extension cord
Your old lead-acid charger does not go back on the cart. Use only the charger that comes with the kit or another charger Pro-Guide recommends.
2. A cart-specific mounting bracket
The bracket holds the pack in place where the lead-acid hold-downs used to be. Brackets come as a set of two and are sold separately so you only buy the one that fits your cart.
3. A charge receptacle
The kit's 110V universal receptacle works as the charging inlet. If you want a receptacle made for your cart's body, Pro-Guide sells versions for the Club Car Precedent, Club Car DS and EZGO.
Here is what comes in each kit, with the pack size and weight you will be lifting into the compartment.

Tools and Safety
Pro-Guide's installation videos use common hand tools plus a hole saw for the dash gauge and power button. Before you start, gather:
- Wrenches or sockets for the battery terminals, hold-downs and bracket hardware
- A drill with a hole saw for the SOC gauge and power button
- Masking tape and a marker to label cables
- Your phone, to photograph the battery compartment before you touch anything
- Cable ties to secure the harness and wiring
- Safety glasses and gloves
A few safety basics apply to every cart:
- Work with the key off and the parking brake set.
- Keep metal tools from bridging two terminals. Remove rings and watches.
- Lead-acid batteries are heavy and contain acid. Lift them carefully, keep them upright, and take them to a battery retailer or recycler.
- Install the lithium pack in a clean, dry, secure spot, and keep it away from impact and extreme heat.
How to Remove the Lead-Acid Batteries
These steps follow Pro-Guide's G48V105 installation videos for the Club Car Precedent and the Yamaha Drive2 (2017 and newer). Watch the video for your cart alongside this guide.
Step 1: Prepare the cart
- Turn the key to the off position and set the parking brake.
- Remove or raise the seat and move the tow/run switch to "tow." On the Yamaha Drive2, raise the seat, set the switch to "tow," then remove the seat by tilting it and lifting it straight up.
- Photograph the battery compartment so you have a record of how everything is connected.
- Label the main positive and main negative cables.
Step 2: Disconnect and remove the old batteries
- Disconnect the main negative cable first, then the main positive cable.
- Disconnect any additional cables.
- Remove the battery hold-down brackets.
- Lift out the old batteries one at a time.
- Clean the battery compartment so the new pack sits on a clean surface.
How to Install the Lithium Pack
Step 3: Mount the battery
Set the Pro-Guide lithium pack in the compartment, line it up with the mounting bracket for your cart, and secure it with the provided hardware. The pack must not be able to shift while you drive.
Step 4: Connect the main cables
Connect the main negative and main positive cables to the pack. When more than one wire goes on a terminal, stack them in the right order: the wire with the highest load goes closest to the terminal. Check your photos and labels as you go.
Step 5: Install the receptacle and charger
Install the new 110V receptacle (or the cart-specific receptacle you bought) and connect the charger to the charging port. Give the charger room to breathe. In the Yamaha Drive2 video, the charger is mounted under the driver's side, away from direct water spray, with at least 6 inches of ventilation space around it.

After the conversion, one Pro-Guide lithium pack sits in the compartment where the lead-acid bank used to be.
Wiring the SOC Gauge and DC-DC Converter
Step 6: Install the DC-DC converter (if you run 12V accessories)
If your cart has 12V lights, a horn, USB chargers or a radio, install the included DC-DC converter. It steps the pack voltage down to 12V so you never need to tap part of the pack for accessories. Carts without 12V accessories can skip this step.
Step 7: Mount the SOC gauge and power button
- Pick a spot on the dash where you can see the gauge and reach the button.
- Use a hole saw to cut the openings for the state-of-charge gauge and the power button.
- Route the wiring harness securely from the battery compartment to the dash.
- Plug the harness into the gauge and the power button, then secure both in the dash.
Step 8: Connect the harness to the battery
Connect the SOC gauge harness to the battery. The Yamaha Drive2 video points out that the connector's alignment tab should click into place. Then secure all wires with cable ties and double-check every connection.

The SOC gauge goes in the dash through a hole-saw opening and shows voltage, current and state of charge.
First Charge and Test Drive
Step 9: Reassemble and test
- Reinstall the seat.
- Move the tow/run switch back to "run."
- Test the cart in forward and reverse.
Step 10: Charge to 100% before first use
Charge the pack to 100% before you drive it. With the included 15A charger, a 105Ah pack takes roughly 7 hours from empty (105Ah ÷ 15A). The G48V210 takes about 9.5 hours with its 22A charger. Only charge when the pack is between 32°F and 131°F (0°C to 55°C).
Once it is charged, check the SOC gauge. If the cart beeps, the gauge and BMS are reporting a condition such as low charge, low voltage or temperature. Our SOC warnings guide lists each warning and what it means.
EZGO, 36V and 72V Carts
Pro-Guide has published installation videos for the Club Car Precedent and the Yamaha Drive2. We have not published an EZGO-specific walkthrough. The general order of work is the same on any cart: key off, parking brake on, tow mode, photograph and label, negative cable off first, remove the old batteries, mount the pack with the right bracket, connect the cables, install the receptacle and charger, wire the gauge and converter, test and fully charge.
What differs between carts is where the cables run, where the charger and receptacle mount, and which bracket holds the pack. For an EZGO TXT or RXV, buy the EZGO bracket and the EZGO receptacle, follow your photos and labels, and call Pro-Guide at 1-800-827-3232 before you connect anything you are not sure about. Do not guess at wiring that does not match the steps above. The same goes for 36V carts converting with the G36V105 and 72V carts with the G72V105.
After the Conversion: Sleep Timer, Storage and Cold Weather
Know the sleep timer
To protect the cells, Pro-Guide golf packs switch themselves off after 24 hours below 20% charge, or after one week above 20%. If the cart seems dead after sitting, the pack has most likely gone to sleep. Recharge it before it gets that low.
Store it partly charged
For storage, keep the pack at 50% to 70% charge in a cool, dry place. Self-discharge is about 3% per month, so check the gauge every so often during a long layup.
Charge above freezing
The packs can discharge from -4°F to 131°F (-20°C to 55°C), so you can drive on a cold morning. Charging is a different limit: only charge between 32°F and 131°F (0°C to 55°C). In winter, let the pack warm above freezing before you plug in.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you convert a golf cart to lithium?
Put the cart in tow mode with the key off and the parking brake set, label the main cables, disconnect the main negative and then the main positive, and remove the lead-acid batteries. Mount the lithium pack with a cart-specific bracket, connect the main cables, install the receptacle and charger, wire the SOC gauge and DC-DC converter, then test the cart and charge the pack to 100% before first use.
What do I need to convert a Club Car to lithium?
You need a Pro-Guide lithium golf kit plus a Club Car bracket. For a Club Car Precedent, use the Precedent bracket with the G48V105. For a Club Car DS, use the DS bracket with the G48V105M. Pro-Guide also sells Club Car Precedent and Club Car DS charge receptacles. Brackets and receptacles are sold separately.
