Choosing the Right Battery
Are my electronics safe on 16 volts?
Only if the manufacturer rates them for it. Check the input voltage range for every unit on the circuit before wiring in a 16V battery — a device rated only to 12V or 14V should not be run on one.
What does LiFePO4 mean, and why does Pro-Guide use it?
LiFePO4 — lithium iron phosphate — is the most thermally stable lithium chemistry in common use. Compared with lead-acid it holds voltage under load far longer, weighs a fraction as much for the same usable capacity, and needs no watering or terminal maintenance.
How many amp hours do I actually need?
Add up the amp draw of everything the battery has to run, multiply by the hours you want between charges, and leave some headroom. If you would rather not do the math, our team will size it with you over the phone.
Charging & Maintenance
Do 16V batteries need a special charger?
Yes. Use a charger with a 16V lithium bank — several of our multi-bank chargers include one, which is why they are listed as 12V/16V units.
What maintenance do these batteries need?
None of the routine watering or terminal cleaning that flooded lead-acid requires. The built-in BMS manages charge and discharge protection automatically.
